Today was a really really cool day. The first thing we did today was go to a place called L'Atelier des Lumieres. I can barely describe what we saw there. I meas, it was essentially a multi-projection immersive audiovisual experience. We saw three different shows there, a Van Gogh show, a Japanese art show, and a nebula show. I personally liked the way the Japanese art show utilized the space and the projectors that they had, but the Van Gogh show had the best overall experience. The music that they used during the Van Gogh show was incredible-- I actually looked it up afterwards and found the audio programming that they used so I can add it to my Spotify later. I wish that the nebula show was longer, because I really think that it had something special, but it was really difficult to tell because of how short it was. It kind of felt like a preview. It made me think about this piece that I saw in the Pompidou, this immersive punk rock collective exhibition. That exhibition used a lot of sound, light, and projection elements, so I think that if they could utilize a space like the Atelier des Lumieres, it could really transform that style of art into something really special. I really can't wait to one day go back and hopefully see art of substance there rather than art of performativity.
After we went to the Atelier de Lumieres went down to the Seine and had lunch-- we had some really good burgers and I had a really good mojito! after lunch we went to the skatepark for a graffiti Workshop. That was a super cool experience that we all got to have. I really really liked the black dust masks that they had. ( I might actually have to get a pack for myself!) I loved learning all of the techniques that they use in making graffiti, because that's not really something that I probably could have learned on my own. I mean, I know that's how graffiti artists learn to graffiti regularly-- just by doing it over and over and over again, but it's nice to have a head start. I'm excited to get my own spray paint and vandalize all of the corporate buildings in Lexington. If you see any signs that say "Eat the Rich," then you know it's probably me.
After we got home and had dinner, I went on the Hemingway hunt. Tt was much shorter than I anticipated, and it was kind of nice that the sun was going down as I went because it wasn't super hot. I wasn't the biggest fan of the last little bit of the hunt, the part where we had to visit all of the restaurants, but I really enjoyed going back to St. Sulpice and sitting in that square and just absorbing everything all over again. that's one place that I wish I spent more time at.
Tomorrow is our last full day in Paris. It feels really weird that the trip is finally coming to an end, but I'm not ready to think about that just yet.
