Today was our last full day in Paris. we got to go back to our favorite breakfast place on the corner Rue saint-Jacques and Port Royal. It's nice to have that sort of bookend on either side of our trip to Paris. We started with a good breakfast, and we ended with a good breakfast. The only thing that we had on the schedule today was going to lunch in the park together. I'm really sad that we hadn't found that sandwich place earlier, because that lunch was amazing! That smoked salmon sandwich, MMM! I've never had one better and I don't think I will ever again. I liked being able to sit down in the Jardin du Luxembourg all together, eat our lunch, and sort of take inventory.
Today, I will sort of ready to be home. Jace and I had decided that 19 days, three weeks, was the perfect amount of time to be in Paris. But I was a little unsure after we all eat lunch together, especially after I heard Herman getting all emotional, I don't think I was ready to leave anymore. I realized how much I value and cherish the friendships that I've made here, and I also realized that I wouldn't be seeing Herman for a little while, since he's going to be on sabbatical. I loved being able to have conversations with everybody about all of the things that we were doing together.
I also realize that because this was our last day, there was only so many things that we had left to do. Jace and I decided to take this last day to go back to the Centre Pompidou, since he hadn't been yet. I sort of acted as the tour guide, but I ended up taking more of a backseat and just showing Jace my favorite parts of the museum and letting him wander around and see the things he was attracted to most of the time. There were even some things, on this third time around, that I missed the first two times! Like the fact that the text on the wall was making fun of all of the modern artists who had misappropriated the form and function of the Venus figures because they weren't a part of the culture that they were born in, and therefore could never truly understand them. I just thought that was funny! Male artists really do suck sometimes.
After we went to the Centre Pompidou, we went to a couple of vintage stores. We went back to a kilo shop, which we had been meaning to go to since first visiting one on Rue Saint Germain. And while we were there, I finally found the tote bag that I was looking for, or rather I found three. I've been meaning to buy one on the whole trip, and now I finally feel like a true Parisian. Jace and I went back to this really good Italian place we went to on the 14th of July for dinner, they make their own ravioli! I had a really really good glass of red Sicilian wine while I was there. It was also a really nice end to the day. Good pasta and good wine!
I have to get up really early tomorrow morning in order to catch the Metro in order to make it to my flight on time. I really do think I'm going to miss Paris. even though I complained a lot, and there were a lot of things that I really won't miss about Paris, I think I'm always going to have a little bit of nostalgia for the cobblestone streets.
